(10/08)    EMS Capatin William took a CPR Instructor program offered through Vanguard-Sentinel in Fremont.  William is now able to teach in house CPR classes.

(10/08)    The Catawba Island Fire Department went through a three week course in Hazardous Materials Response.  Firefighters covered different situations and how handle each situation with different steps.

(02/08)    Four EMTs attended the Partners For Life EMS Conference, sponsored by  St. Vincent's Lifeflight.  At this conference our members received continuing education credit for attending informational seminars regarding new pre-hospital care techniques.

(11/07)  The Catawba Island Township trustees took delivery of a new 2007 Seagrave relay pumper designed to supply an attack engine with large amounts of water during large fires.

(5/07)  Congratulations to EMS Captain William Moore for successfully completing the Advanced EMT course.

(10/06)  EMS Captain William Moore has begun studies in an Advanced EMT program.  Firefighter Karl Busby has also commenced a basic EMT course.   The 130-hour courses, including classroom, practical, and clinical studies, are scheduled to conclude in May 2007.

(3/06) Ten firefighters returned from BGSU State Fire School.  Courses covered included LP gas emergencies, fire investigation, methamphetamine labs, and new vehicle safety system awareness.  All the volunteers spent the weekend on campus keeping current with new firefighting challenges and techniques.

(02/06)  The Catawba Island Volunteer Firemen's Association and the Ladies' Auxiliary purchased a new, state-of-the-art thermal imager for the fire department.  At the cost of approximately $11,000, this tool allows firefighters to locate "hot spots" in and around walls, as well as pinpoint temperatures of their surroundings.

 

The Firemen's Association also purchased two new stair-chairs at the cost of approximately $5,000.  These tools will allow us to maneuver patients up and down stairs, as well as around tight corners that may otherwise be inaccessible to our cots.
